CASE STUDY – EMBRACING THE ECF AND NPQS TO DRIVE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT AND TEACHER DEVELOPMENT – ULLSWATER COMMUNITY COLLEGE

We are delighted that the Teaching School Hub Council has published a case study about the wonderful work that happens at Ullswater Community College. You can read it here:

NPQ UPDATE

The DfE has announced the NPQ funding for the next cohort. They have confirmed that there will be scholarship funding for the October 2024 cohort, targeting those teachers and leaders who work in the most challenging schools or educational settings, serving more disadvantaged communities.

Scholarship funding to cover the full NPQ course cost will be available to teachers and leaders from:

  • the 50% of schools with the highest proportion of students who attract pupil premium funding
  • 16 to 19 educational settings identified as having high disadvantage
  • For the early years leadership NPQ, highly disadvantaged early years settings will also be eligible.

Scholarships will continue to be available to all teachers and leaders from publicly funded schools and 16 to 19 educational organisations for the following NPQs:

  • NPQLPM
  • NPQ for SENCOs
  • NPQH
  • EHCO

There will be a capped number of 10,800 scholarship places. For context, previous October cohorts have been around 20,000, so this is about half the size of current cohorts. Funding for the April 2025 cohorts and beyond has not been confirmed.

What does this mean for us and what are our next steps?

We are working with our Lead provider Teach First on the offer we can proceed with. Until we have a definitive list of schools that are eligible for scholarship funding, the cost of each NPQ if scholarship funding is not available and the numbers that w are allowed to recruit we cannot open for applications. However, if you are interested in applying for a NPQ to begin in the Autumn term, please express your interest on this form so we can email you directly:
